PREVIEW: Luton look to continue Bath’s winless run

BATH City and Luton Town couldn’t approach this evening’s game in a more different vein of form, writes Mike Simmonds.

While Hatters were securing their third successive win and clean sheet on Saturday, Bath were going down 2-1 at AFC Telford United, to lose their third match on the trot.

In fact, their poor sequence is even worse as Bath, who are rock bottom of the table, have lost their last five games and are yet to register a win this season.

The Romans had been the surprise package in the Conference last season, finishing in 10th position, based on a proud home record that saw them win 10, draw 10 and lose just three.

This campaign it just hasn’t happened for them though, especially at Twerton Park, as they have lost all four matches, scoring just once.

Manager Adie Britton is desperately trying to rectify the poor sequence though, bringing in Norwegian U21 striker Torbjorn Agdestein on loan from Brighton.

He has also signed Bristol Rovers defender Charlie Clough on a month’s loan, after the defender spent three months at Twerton Park last season, while Britton has also raided Rovers for midfielder Ben Swallow too.

The boss strengthened his backline during the summer too as goalkeeper Glyn Garner, who has one international cap for Wales was brought in, but 15 goals shipped in nine games to date, isn’t the return they had been hoping for.

Team news:New signing Janos Kovacs goes straight into the squad after he signed on an emergency one month loan from Hereford on Monday.

Ed Asafu-Adjaye is available once more after serving his suspension, but Dean Beckwith misses out due to his red card on Saturday, while Keith Keane and Curtis Osano are still doubts.

Injured quartet George Pilkington, Dan Gleeson, Shane Blackett and Freddie Murray are still in training, while Charlie Henry isn’t expected back for a while yet.

City’s Alex Russell has returned to training recently after collapsing during the journey to York City which was later confirmed as an extremely serious migraine.

Marley Watkins, Scott Murray, and Adam Connolly have all missed recent matches, but are all hoped to be declared fit.

From the dug out: Adie Britton “I’m looking forward to the game, as I know all of the players are.

“When we came into the league 18 months ago, Luton was a fixture everyone looked for.

“They are such a big club with an impressive history. The last time I saw them was the play-off final at Eastlands in May, and I know how impressive their squad is.

“It promises to be a good game of football with tightly contrasting styles and I’m sure it’s one everyone is looking forward to.

“We’re hoping for more of the fantastic support we’ve had from City supporters all season.”

One to watch: Torbjorn Agdestein - The 19-year-old has signed on loan from Championship side Brighton.

Agdestein has yet to make a senior appearance for Brighton but scored twice during their pre-season campaign and made his Bath debut at the weekend.
