With nearest challengers Cambridge United winning through to the FA Trophy final the U’s are now a long way behind the Hatters, but have a game in hand and goalscorer Guttridge is taking nothing for granted.

He said: “It’s going very well, but we’re not getting carried away because we haven’t done anything. Plenty of teams throughout every league have shown that a big lead means nothing until you get it mathematically safe.

“So all we’re doing at the moment is trying to win as many games as we can and if other teams were to slip up then that’s a bonus.

“All we can do at the moment is keep winning games and the more we chalk off, I don’t know, are there 15 games left? So all we will try to do is win as many games as we can so it’s mathematically not possible for anyone to catch us.”
