Potent Walker admits frustration at never getting a consistent run at Hatters

Frustrated attacker Dan Walker wished he had been given more of a chance at Kenilworth Road after boasting the best goal to minute ratio for the club last season, writes Mark Wood.

The 23-year-old averaged a goal every 180 minutes for the Hatters, but signed for Conference rivals Hereford United last week as Luton decided not to renew his contract after three years at the club.

That compared favourably against Stuart Fleetwood with one every 194, Andre Gray (209) and Scott Rendell (265).

Walker admitted his biggest regret was never being able to get up a head of steam and find out how good he could be with consistent game time.

He said: “My goals to minute ratio was the best at the club.

“Fitness-wise I felt I tired a bit in games. When I did get a start I wasn’t sharp or fit enough.

“I would score a goal but maybe could have scored two or three goals in the game.

“I would have just loved to have had a run of games to show the fans and myself how well I could have done.”

Walker netted five times in 36 appearances during his three years at the club after signing from Bedford Town, but felt Luton’s fans never really got to see the best of him.

And although new boss John Still admitted he was a big fan of Walker when he came in, the former Leighton Town man believes it is difficult for any Luton boss to blood players.
