Speculation had been rife after the Posh supremo, plus manager Darren Ferguson and his coaching staff were at Kenilworth Road for the 3-0 friendly win against Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.

Conducting an impromptu question and answer session on his Twitter page, when asked if Peterborough had made a bid for Gray, MacAnthony answered: “Nope. I’m sure our scouts will continue watching all non league talent & he’s talented for sure.”

Town manager John Still also played down the interest from the League One side, who recently offloaded star striker Dwight Gayle to Crystal Palace in a big money move.

Coincidentally, Still had sold Gayle to Peterborough when at former club Dagenham & Redbridge and quizzed about the London Road management team in attendance, he said: “You’ll have to ask Darren Ferguson.

“I’ve come here from a club where we sold players regularly and I think when you have people watching your club, it’s compliment to the football club.”
