Poku prepared to stay at Southport until the end

OPEN-MINDED Godfrey Poku has revealed that he’d be happy to stay at Southport on loan for the rest of the season.

The combative midfielder has made 15 appearances for the club, helping a team, who were reprieved relegation last season, above the Hatters in the league and into the heady heights of third.

Both he and fellow loan man Dan Walker have helped the Sandgrounders’ charge up the league, going on loan to the Haig Avenue outfit as part of the deal which saw John Paul Kissock move to Kenilworth Road.

Poku, 21, has been in impressive form since joining from Luton in August and he said: “If Luton say I can come back, I wouldn’t think twice and I’d come back until the end of the season.

“I’d love to continue playing for Southport because I’m happy here and enjoying my time.

“I just want to play football whether it’s at Luton or Southport.

“But I’ll have to weigh up the options and see if Luton want me back because that is my club.

“I’m very happy at the moment playing for Southport. This club has helped me and hopefully I can stay here and do more.

“The lads and the staff have made me happy. Playing football is what I want to do and at Luton I didn’t play many games.

“Thankfully I’ve come here and done really well.”
