Poku explains reasons behind quitting Luton

A BETTER deal and the quest for regular football were Godfrey Poku’s reasons for seeking a new club as he joined Conference rivals Mansfield Town yesterday, writes Mark Wood.

Hatters revealed last week that both the 21-year-old midfielder and winger Robbie Willmott, 22, rejected new contracts and that the club had turned down a bid for Poku’s services.

The move for Poku will be subject to a tribunal if the two clubs can’t agree a fee and the youngster, signed by the Hatters from St Albans City two and a half years ago, admitted he had been in discussions with other Conference clubs.

Poku said: “Basically I just felt it was time for me to move on because I felt I needed regular football. I’ve had three great years there. It was down to a better contract really.

“The club offered me a contract which I thought was good, but I had better contracts offered.”
