Persistence pays off for Fleetwood

STRIKER Stuart Fleetwood proved the old adage if at first you don’t succeed then try, try and try again after netting a late winner for Town on Saturday, writes Mike Simmonds.

The recent signing from Hereford had been denied on a number of occasions by Imps keeper Joe Anyon, while also clipping the bar, before like all good goalscorers, he found a yard of space in the box to convert John Paul Kissock’s jinking run and cross and earn Luton a precious three points.

Fleetwood said: “It was a great feeling. I was disappointed not to score earlier with a few chances that I had, but it was nice to get the winner.

“One against one, JP will beat anyone. He’s got great quick feet, he just played it across the box and that’s exactly where I should be, just waiting for the tap in.”
