The 53-year-old, who will give Wednesday an answer tomorrow, Wednesday May 24th, 2000, told the club's official website 'I am delighted and excited to be so close to returning to football at such a big club with what I see as enormous potential'. Pardew had expressed disappointment at the Magpies’ transfer dealings as Newcastle failed to sign a single player permanently during former Luton Town boss Kinnear’s seven months in the post.

He said: “I’m sad to see anybody lose their job, as Joe has - he did a lot of good work.

“That decision was the board’s. My job is actually the next game.”
