Owen targets million pound clash at Old Trafford

Hatters chairman Nick Owen would love Town to earn a plum money-spinng tie at Premier League giants Manchester United in today’s FA Cup third round draw, writes Mike Simmonds.

A match at Old Trafford would make a massive difference to the Hatter financial circumstances, a fact Owen is well aware of.

He said: “I’m thrilled to get through because the third round is a great shining beacon, especially when you’re a smaller club.

“It would be great to get a big one and play Manchester United away and make a million quid in a day.

“On the other hand it would be quite nice to get one at home and keep progressing because you get paid more if you keep progressing by the FA.

“Just the prize money (against Dorchester) was about £27,000, which is very helpful, but it goes up quite a lot in the third round.

“So we’d like to play someone at home that we could feel we have a real chance of winning, or a major club away from home, that would be the thing.”

On the 2-1 win over Dorchester Town that sent Hatters through with a chance of facing one of the elite clubs, Owen added: “We’re just thrilled to have won and get back on track which sounds a bit of cliche but we’ve played quite well recently and haven’t got the results we felt we deserved.

“We played very well first half and then they really came at us second half. Mark Tyler was absolutely sensational in goal, so I’m very relieved to get through.”
