Onus is on Imps to attack says Buckle

The onus will be on lowly Lincoln City to attack high-flying Luton at Sincil Bank on Saturday, according to Hatters boss Paul Buckle, writes Mark Wood.

Despite the disparity in the clubs’ standings, Buckle asserted the Imps need the points every bit as much as the Hatters.

On whether he expected them to defend and counter, he said: “No not really, they need the points as well as we do.

“It’s a home game for them and I think when you play your home games in any division you look to win the game.

“I’m not sure whether they’ll come out of the traps or look to sit back, I’m not sure.

“I’m sure they’ll have a plan for us, but at the same time they’re the home team so the onus will be on them to win the game.

“They’ve had their fair share of problems but it will be a tough game.

“It’s an away game, it’s a game where we will have to go and be solid and strong and get a foothold in the game and give ourselves something to hold on to to then go and impose ourselves and our game.

“Certainly we won’t be able to just go up there and play, we will have to go up there and and show all the fighting qualities you need in an away performance.”

And Buckle believes there has been a sea-shift in his team and is concentrating his own side ahead of the Lincoln clash.

He added: “There’s lots of good managers around and I have a lot of respect for David Holdsworth. What he does and how he goes about his business.

“We will be going up there to focus on ourselves as normal, we won’t change too much where that’s concerned.

“I’ve been very pleased with the attitude of our players, the togetherness and team spirit has been first-class.

“That sometimes takes a while, especially with so many new faces. But myself and Carl (Emberson) and Neils (Alan Neilson) we’ve seen a real change in the last couple of weeks in the attitude of the team and the togetherness of the team.

“It’s a really important part in football and we’re really pleased with them at the moment.

“We still think there is more to come from us as a team and as a squad.”
