Old stars set to line up against Luton as Town prepare for tough run of games

Town have failed to hit top form this season and needed a 97th-minute equaliser from Luke Guttridge to earn a 1-1 home draw against Macclesfield on Saturday.

Luton now face a massively tricky run of games with local rivals Cambridge United visiting on Monday followed by matches against all three of last season’s disappointed play-off teams.

Henry said: “We’ll be back on the training pitch on Monday and we’ll be working on that for the game next week at Forest Green.

“Forest Green’s no different from any other game, it’s going to be a tough game, we know it is, but we’ll go into it with confidence. We’ll work this week and I’m sure we’ll work long and hard and the lads will put it in on the training pitch and try and get better and try and get the understanding better between us.

“And I’m sure we’ll move on and improve next week.”

Rovers boast ex-Hatters Ed Asafu-Adjaye, Matthew Barnes-Homer and George Pilkington in their ranks, along with former Town targets Reece Styche, James Norwood and Yan Klukowski.

Just like last season though, Henry doesn’t expect anyone to run away with the league, saying: “There won’t be, like last year. Mansfield and Kidderminster had a slow start and they ended up finishing first and second. It’s not going to be decided yet but we know we need to keep putting points on the board, keeping clean sheets and scoring goals.”

Goalscoring midfielder Guttridge thinks it’s too early to tell how good a start the Hatters have had, saying: “We had the same thing last year (at Northampton Town), we played Southend. I think they’d lost their opening five games, they turned out probably the best team that we played all season.

“Unfortunately at the moment, until you get a better picture of the league, we don’t know. Southport could be up there challenging right to the end of the season.

“At the moment it’s a bit of an unknown quantity for ourselves and everybody in the league because there’s always a couple of teams that do better than what you think and a couple of teams that don’t do as well as you think and the rest is muddled in.

“We have to treat each game the same at the moment, and we’ve got Forest Green next week and by all accounts I’m not sure if they’ve had a great start or not so the pressure will be on them and we’ll see how they are. I don’t think anyone’s going to be brilliant this season. Obviously we want to make ourselves the best we can and put ourselves at the top if we can.”

Team spirit within the camp remains high despite an indifferent start to the season with Town’s stars huddling together before every game.

Henry added: “He (manager John Still) likes that and he likes the team spirit. He likes us to be together and I think we are together. And I think we are together, the lads are together in there, we’re all pulling in the right direction, the players and the staff, we all know what we want and there’s no-one better than the manager we’ve got here. He knows what he’s doing and he’s seen it all before.

“He’s guiding us the right way and we will get there. As captain I just do my job every day on the training pitch, make sure everyone’s at it, no-one slacking and try my best and that’s all I can do really and that’s what I’m doing.”
