O’Connor linked with Newport switch

TOWN attacker Aaron O’Connor is expected to sign for Newport County today according to media reports, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 28-year-old, who still has a year to run on his contract, didn’t feature against AFC Dunstable at the weekend, will link up with former Rushden boss Justin Edinburgh as he is now in charge at County.

O’Connor also played under the former Spurs defender at Grays Athletic as Edinburgh, who is also looking to bringin ex-Bradford player Mike Flynn, said: “We are close with both, ideally we’d love to have them in by tomorrow (when County face Bristol Rovers at Rodney Parade).

“The boy O’Connor has agreed to come and Tim is working on tying up the loose ends and I am hoping Flynny will be coming as well.”

O’Connor was signed by former Town boss Gary Brabin last summer and made 39 appearances, scoring nine times, his last outing coming in the play-off final defeat to York City at Wembley.

Speaking about both O’Connor and midfielder Andre Boucard on Saturday, assistant boss Alan Neilson had said: “Neilson continued: “Their futures will be sorted out fairly soon.

“You’ll have to ask other people about that one though I’m afraid. We’re still looking to improve the squad, so there could be players in and there could be players out.”
