No bids received for Hatters star

AN internet story linking Jake Howells with a move away from Kenilworth Road has been dismissed as ‘pure rumour’ by Luton Town managing director Gary Sweet, writes Mark Wood.

A report by Skysports.com claimed that the left-footed youngster was being trailed by a host of Football League clubs.

On the 20-year-old, Welsh U21 international, who came through the ranks at Luton, it claimed: “The likes of Peterborough, Millwall and Ipswich have all previously followed Howells closely.

“Now interest is increasing with the knowledge that Howells is out of-contract next summer.

“Howells, who has just been called into Wales’ Under-21 squad, is now believed to be being watched by Barnsley and Preston.

“Luton are determined to hold on to Howells, but they know the lure of League football could be hard to resist.”

Howells has been in impressive form for the Hatters in both midfield and defence but Sweet quashed the speculation.

He said: “Pure rumour. We’ve had no other club register interest for months.”
