Newport confirm O’Connor deal

HATTERS attacker Aaron O’Connor has completed his move to Conference rivals Newport County on a free transfer.

O’Connor, 28, who still had a year left to run on his contract, had been strongly linked with a transfer to County all week, with Town boss Paul Buckle admitting the deal was going through.

A statement on the Hatters official website this morning said: “The Hatters can confirm that Aaron O’Connor has had his contract with Luton Town cancelled by mutual consent leaving him free to seek alternative opportunities.

“Luton Town would like to take this opportunity to thank Aaron for his services and consistent effort during his time at Kenilworth Road.”

On announcing his arrival at the Exiles, County released a statement saying: “We are delighted to announce that following on from last night’s impressive performance and the encouraging attendance at our new home, Aaron O’Connor has this morning signed for the club.

“I am sure you will join everyone at the club in welcoming Aaron to the club.”

O’Connor made a total of 39 appearances for Luton after joining from Rushden & Diamonds last season, scoring nine times.

He joins up with former Town striker Danny Crow, who also signed for Newport after being released by Luton.

After the news became official, O’Connor tweeted: “Thanks for all the messages from the hatters fans. Uve all been great & I’ll miss u. God bless.”
