Neilson plays down Jolley speculation

Hatters assistant manager Alan Neilson has played down speculation linking Luton with AFC Wimbledon winger Christian Jolley, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 24-year-old has been on loan at Newport County AFC recently, scoring twice against Luton in the Exiles 5-2 victory, but was then recalled by the Dons.

In a statement on County’s official website, Newport manager Justin Edinburgh admitted defeat in trying to sign Jolley permanently, while it was claimed both Town and Forest Green Rovers were interested in snapping him up.

Neilson said: “I read it on the website and didn’t know about it beforehand.

“What I would say is that we’re always linked with lots of players, but there’s nothing to it at the moment.

“We can’t sign anyone until January anyway, so I think it’s all paper talk.

“Sometimes clubs put things like that to link players and help themselves.

“They’ve pulled him back because he’s done well in there.”

When asked if he was a player who could fit into Town’s squad, Neilson continued: “He’s a player who’s done well.

“(Lathaniel) Rowe-Turner is a very good defender and he gave him a tough time.

“He’s a player who is lively and any good player in our league or the league above, we keep a note of them.

“Any team who’s got aspirations to go on and get out of the league will have scouts who will go and look at these players.

“We’ll put a tick against players, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to go out and buy them.

“We need players who are going to improve the squad and is he one of those? Maybe.”
