Morgan-Smith disappointed not to be offered Town deal

LUTON Town striker Amari Morgan-Smith couldn’t hide his disappointment after not being offered a new deal at Kenilworth Road, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 23-year-old netted 10 goals in 21 games last season, and was leading scorer for large chunks of the campaign despite a prolonged absence through injury.

He recovered to be included in both play-off semi-final matches against Wrexham, but was then surprisingly left out of the squad for the final against York City, which Luton lost 2-1.

After the news broke, Morgan-Smith tweeted: “Thanks for all the kind messages, its a sad day for me to find out via the internet I’m not going to be offered a new deal.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing at kenilworth road in front of the amazing fans, just wish I could of played more!

“Would also like to thank all the staff, players and great fans at luton town and to wish you all the best in the future! x”

Hatters press officer Andrew Barringer was quick to respond though, tweeting: “Just to clear something up, Amari Morgan-Smith’s agent acknowledged an email sent from the club about the decision prior to our 6pm release.”

Morgan-Smith is the second player to complain about alleged lack of communication from the club after winger Robbie Willmott took to Twitter to air his disappointment at not being offered a new deal at Kenilworth Road either.
