Morgan-Smith could be surprise inclusion for Alfreton match

HOTSHOT striker Amari Morgan-Smith could be a surprise inclusion in the Hatters’ squad for Saturday’s tough trip to Alfreton Town, writes Mark Wood.

Morgan-Smith has endured an injury-ravaged season, but has still netted 10 times and been Town’s leading scorer for most of the campaign.

New boss Paul Buckle said: “Amari’s trained hard. We’ve decided to try and give him a bit of a break today. He needed that with his hamstring.

“I’m governed by the physios, he’s been fantastic, Simon’s brilliant. I’ve got to see Amari in a couple of sessions and he looks a real handful.

“So we are very keen to get him back. Hopefully he will be around for Saturday, we will see tomorrow.”

Neither does he have any fresh injury worries following Monday’s 4-2 home victory over Hayes & Yeading.

Buckle continued: “Injuries are not too bad, we’ve not picked up any injuries from Monday and I’m hopeful one or two will be back ready for Saturday.

“Dan Gleeson’s back training. This is the good thing about doing two or three sessions in a day.

“People like Gleeson we can really try and get him up to speed quickly because we are running out of games.”

And although he’s ruled out recalling anyone from their loans spells he has urged those players who didn’t play a part in Monday’s win to stake their claim for a place on the training ground.

Buckle added: “I don’t see anyone coming back from loan. But certainly everyone that you see out here today and the 10 you saw on Saturday it’s an opportunity for all of them.

“If people take their foot off the gas someone might take their place and that’s what I’m encouraging.

“I’m a great believer in training. Players have impressed me and will impress me on the training field because I believe in it so much.

“The 10 that played on Monday have earned the right. If I decide to change it on Saturday it will just be minimal and tactical if I do.

“It’s up to the chaps out here you see today to work very hard and either wait for their opportunity or go and take it off someone else.”
