McNulty wants Luton to show they mean business at Barrow

The 29-year-old has already experienced lifting the Blue Square Bet Premier trophy with Fleetwood last season, and knows how crucial results are against side currently struggling like the Bluebirds.

Speaking exclusively to the News/Gazette, he said: “They’re the places you’ve got to go and no disrespect to Barrow as they’re a good club, but if you want to be winning the league you’ve got to grind results out.

“Sometimes you can’t play the pretty football. If it’s a 1-0 win at the end of the day, it’s all about putting the points on the board.”

McNulty is expected to be thrown straight into the side, although he would have no qualms if manager Paul Buckle stuck with the same defence that have shut out Wolves and Norwich City in recent weeks.

He said: “I’m in the squad, so it’s the managers decision. The lads who have been in have been doing really well, they’ve put themselves in pole position, but if selected, I’ll be giving it my all.”

McNulty moved from Holker Street to Fleetwood for £17,000 back in 2009 and is expecting a bit of stick from the home fans on his return.

He said: “I got promoted to the Conference with them and had a lot of good times there, they’ve always been a good club for me.

“When I signed for Fleetwood, I don’t think the fans were too happy as it was a drop back down to Blue Square North, but that’s football.

“It’s a new challenge now and I can’t wait for it to start. Hopefully we can go there and get the three points and take a step forward to winning the league.”

Meanwhile, boss Paul Buckle wants his team to try and replicate the sorts of displays that have seen them win plaudits throughout the football world due to their FA Cup exploits recently.

He added: “Our focus now is on Barrow and we’ve all go to try and recreate that buzz and atmosphere, that will to win that we’ve had in the cup.

“Because if we can do that and win our games in hand, we’re absolutely right in there.”
