McNulty vows to win the Hatters faithful over

New signing Steve McNulty has vowed to win over any Luton fans who may doubt his ability, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 29-year-old penned a conditional 18-month deal on transfer deadline day after being released by Fleetwood Town.

Although he doesn’t expect to be everyone’s cup of tea initially, McNulty is confident that will change.

He said: “People might not have expected to sign me, but once they get by that, I’m sure I’ll win the fans over.

I’m always up for a challenge and have always won the fans over wherever I’ve been so hopefully I can do that here.”

McNulty was skipper at the Cod Army, lifting the Conference title last season, but doesn’t have any desires to take over from Town captain Ronnie Henry.

He continued: “There’s a lot more people ahead of me and that’s one thing I’m not even considering.”

Speaking about his decision to bring in the defender, Hatters boss Paul Buckle said: When I last saw Steve McNulty at Fleetwood it was the last game of last season.

“He was in the tunnel. He’s going out to get the trophy and I congratulated him on his success. He didn’t even flinch, didn’t even look happy.

“I want people to have success and really be hungry for the next one. I think McNulty knew he had that in the bag and wanted to know when the next one was.

“If you look at his pedigree, his record and what he’s done, it was a no brainer for me.”
