Town had to settle for a goalless draw in the end, but defender Steve McNulty was disappointed they hadn’t been able to nick it.

He said: “I thought on the whole, second half, we were unlucky not to take the three points.

“First half they were the better side and we’ve gone in at half time and the gaffer’s changed the formation a bit.

“And I thought we looked more dangerous in the second half and we could have nicked it at the end, but we had to defend well.”

But having failed to test Mark Tyler all afternoon, the Bulls almost twice grabbed a winner in the closing stages as substitute Andrew Gray was twice forced to clear efforts from corners off the line.

McNulty continued: “They had a couple of corners where we cleared the ball off the line, so maybe on the whole it was a close result.

“Dre’s come on and cleared two off the line, but that’s what he’s there for, he’s on the post to do a job and he’s got hold of his post and done his job well.

“We need to be defending the first ball better and getting of rid of it, but we defended them well in the end.”

Town were once against cheered on by some great travelling support as 580 fans made the six-hour round-trip to Edgar Street.

“They’re great, they follow us everywhere and I’ve never seen an away following like it,” said McNulty.

“We get good gates at home but it’s great to see them all here, we’re on a decent run and we won’t be far off come the end of the season - I believe that, all the players believe that so we need them to keep coming in their numbers and keep getting behind us and we’ll be doing them proud.”

And having just turned 30 on Wednesday the popular defender couldn’t wait to get home and celebrate his birthday with his family.

He added: “I’ve just turned 30, so I’m going to get home and see the family, I haven’t had my presents yet so hopefully there’ll be a load there waiting for me.”
