McNulty enjoys the banter as he becomes instant Town cult hero

Distinctive new centre-half Steve McNulty proved an instant hit with the Kenilworth Road faithful as his every touch was greeted with cheers during his home debut in the 1-1 draw with Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, writes Mark Wood.

Good natured chants of ‘you fat ba***rd’ also rang out for the portly, grey-haired 29-year-old defender who put in a man of the match performance with a no nonsense showing.

He said: “I get that everywhere I go and I’ve had that since I was 16 when I was at Liverpool.

“That’s water of a duck’s back that, that doesn’t both me.

“I had a good response and hopefully I can come here and do well for them and get promoted.”

Meanwhile, the defender was voted the News/Gazette online star man too, claiming 37% of the vote, beating Janos Kovacs, who claimed 18%.
