McAllister capture not the end of Town’s transfer activity

TOWN manager Gary Brabin confirmed that the club are still looking to strengthen their attacking options, despite signing striker Craig McAllister yesterday, writes Mike Simmonds.

The Newport County target man has joined on loan until the end of the season, but Brabin admitted he may look to bolster his frontline even more during the transfer window.

He said: “Craig has come in, but we’re certainly not going to stop looking and trying to improve that position even more.

“He’s someone who’s going to hold the ball up and give us a bit of a physical presence. We haven’t had that and we’ve put a lot of time and effort into that.

“Craig is someone we know and is someone we have been interested in in the past. When the opportunity came to get him in on loan, we took it.

“We’ve done without that number nine, and I think going into the back end of the season we need someone of that ilk.

“He’s been there, seen it, done it. He’s got a point to prove because I think he hasn’t performed as well as he knows he can, and I’m hoping he’ll come here with a bit of hunger and desire and show us what he’s certainly capable of.”

Brabin, pictured, was less pleased with the fixture backlog his side now face after their goalless draw with Hinckley United in the FA Trophy last night.

Hatters now face four games in eight days with the replay on Monday night and the boss felt senior players such as Stuart Fleetwood, Robbie Willmott and James Dance, could have given more on the night.

He added: “I’m disappointed as we’ve got another game. I think we created enough chances to have won it. There were plenty of young players out there, it was a fantastic game of football for them, proper man’s football, as they were very physical and direct.

“We’ve got to put a bit of trust in our senior players. It was a blow to lose Alasan (Ann) so early on, but young Jake (Woolley) has come on and worked his socks off.

“There were some outstanding performances, I thought Mark Tyler and JP Kissock were absolutely exceptional.

“In the second half, I thought we were the better side. It was certainly a game where if we were a bit more ruthless, we could have won.”
