Masterchef Steve to serve Hatters

MASTERCHEF finalist Steve Barringer is set to cook chicken three ways and peach melba for Luton Town’s stars today, writes Mark Wood.

The Hatters fan, who trained at Barnfield College, is the brother of the club’s press officer Andrew, who revealed the players have been clamouring to taste his food since he finished as a beaten finalist in the BBC Two show last month.

Steve is also looking forward to the day, saying: “I’m very excited. It’s a great opportunity to cook for a team I support.

“It’s good to cook for them and hopefully they can see what I can do as well.”

The talented chef was busy preparing yesterday and is set to be assisted by skipper George Pilkington and goalkeeper Kevin Pilkington, as well as his fiancee.

Speaking yesterday he said: “That’s what I’ve been doing today – a bit of the prep. Especially for the number we are doing. There’s a bit to do tomorrow as well.

“I’ve got my fiancee helping me as well so it should be good.

“I know both (the Pilkingtons) have been huge fans of watching Masterchef and are keen to get their hands dirty and (Stuart) Fleetwood’s said he might do the washing up!”

On the dishes he will be serving, he said: “It’s fine cuisine. That’s what I’m trying to showcase on a large scale term. Hopefully the players like it.

“It takes a lot of time and a lot of hard work but it’s worth it.”

And he even hinted that if his assistants do well, that perhaps they should try to emulate him both in the kitchen and on the box.

Steve added: “I don’t know their culinary excellence. If they are good they should be going for the amateur series!”
