Martin out to rebuild his career with Luton

The 27-year-old, who has been at Crystal Palace, Millwall and Derby County, was released by Southend United, before being snapped up by Town.

On his decision to join, he said: “I want to get my first team place, hold it down and kick on, that is my aim for the rest of the season.

“I needed to move on and am looking forward to the new challenge.

“He (Paul Buckle) said come down, let’s have a look at you and we managed to get something done.”

Martin, who has played the majority of his career in the Championship and League One, had no issues about dropping down into the Conference as he continued: “It’s a League club. The staff, the way that it’s run, the training, the fans, the stadium, there’s no faulting it.

“It’s a great time to sign as there’s a good feel around the place.

“We’re in a good position in the league, we were a bit unfortunate in the Trophy, but in some ways that may help us focus.

“The big one for Luton Town this season is definitely promotion.”

Martin is in line to make his first start at struggling Barrow tomorrow, but appreciates he will be pushed for a place by the likes of Scott Neilson, Jake Howells and JJ O’Donnell.

He said: “Hopefully if selected, I can make my debut.

“I can play both sides, anywhere in midfield really, but left side is my favourite.

“I’m an attacking wide midfielder, I like to get on the ball, create chances and score goals.

“It’s good to have competition, it keeps you on your toes. As the gaffer said, there’s a lot of games to the end of the season.

“Everyone at some stage will be called upon, you’ve got to stay sharp and make sure you’re ready.”

Town go into Saturday, nine points behind leaders Grimsby with three games in hand and Martin knows they have to make those count now.

He added: “We’re very confident, We’ve got a lot of games in hand, but we’ve got to win them now and hopefully everything else will take care of itself.”
