Martin determined to prove his worth at Kenilworth Road

The former Dagenham & Redbridge chief is still assessing his resources at Kenilworth Road and Martin, one of the last signings made by former boss Paul Buckle just three weeks before he left the club, has had to wait for his chance to make an impression.

He said: “It’s been up and down for me.

“Being brought in here, I started playing, then the manager goes and a new man comes in so it’s a clean slate for everyone.”

“For me I want to be playing week in, week out. I want to be helping us get up the table, but at the end of the day the gaffer makes that decision.

“I’ve just got to keep doing what I can do and hopefully when asked upon I can produce for him.”

Town are playing Saturday/Tuesday to the end of the season and Martin know that everyone will get their chance.

He said: “With two games a week you know you’re going to get your opportunity, there’s no doubt about that. You’ve just got to make sure you’re fit and sharp and ready to go.

“We’re all together, we all know what’s got to be done and when a new manager comes in if you work hard and get your head down you know you’re going to get your opportunity, so for me it’s just keep working hard and when called upon you’ve got to do it.

“To be honest I only played under Buckle for a short amount of time and it’s still early doors with the new manager.

“He’s definitely brought us more together, the team’s united together we all want to move forward in the right direction.”

On what Still’s pre-match brief has been, Martin added: “Just go out and enjoy yourselves, we’ve got to play with a smile on our face and enjoy it, but we’ve got to work hard and that’s what he’s putting into the team.

“Every point we can get from every game now is going to be important. We’ve got to make sure we can keep chopping the tree down and picking them up.

“For me the table will look after itself now. There’s no point looking at the table, we’ve just got to keep winning and hope results are going to go our way, that’s all we can do now.

“It’s not really in our hands we’ve just got to make sure we keep the pressure on the people above us and hope we can catch them.”
