Luton chief not yet admitting defeat in battle to sign Shaw from Gateshead

LUTON’s attempts to sign Jon Shaw appear to have hit a brick wall with Gateshead sticking to their guns over their most prized possession, writes Mike Simmonds.

Shaw scored his 22nd league goal of the season as the Tynesiders went down 2-1 at Kettering Town on Tuesday night and despite firm Luton interest, Heed have insisted the forward is not for sale.

After capturing Craig McAllister last week, Town’s immediate need for a striker of Shaw’s ilk has subsided, but Town boss Gary Brabin hasn’t completely given up hope.

He said: “A lot has been asked about the Jon Shaw thing and I don’t think it’s fair on the lad or Gateshead. In any walk of life when you want something, I don’t think you ever totally think its gone.

“We’re monitoring it and we’re not pestering Gateshead.

“They know of our interest, everyone knows of our interest and if anything ever changes I’m sure they’ll be the first to get in touch with us.”
