The 28-year-old is in his third pre-season at Kenilworth Road and when asked if there was a difference under new boss John Still to previous managers, Lawless said: “There is, but there always is.

“For me to be saying yeah there is and who-hoo, would be a little bit too far fetched, but there is a difference and it’s definitely a positive difference, so that’s the main thing.

“When the pressure comes and the league starts it’s totally different. But in terms of the base you need for a good season and a great start, we’ve got it and that’s all you hope for.”

Boss John Still has been busy in the transfer market and although Lawless had a marvellous season, winning a host of supporters awards, he appreciates he will need to battle for his place this term.
