Town midfielder Alex Lawless stormed to the News/Gazette player of the season award after taking over 60 per cent of the vote, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 30-year-old completed a stunning turnaround from last year and has already won a host of supporters awards, plus the players’ player of the year honour too.

Andre Gray was second, with Mark Tyler third as Lawless, who made 47 appearances during the season, scoring four times, said: “I’m as proud as punch to win and am flattered. The personal things, they’re just the bonuses that come with it when you’re working hard.”
