Lawless made his first appearance of the season as a 61st-minute sub in Friday night’s 2-0 defeat at Wrexham.

A series of niggling injuries had obliterated his pre-season preparations, but is keen to start this evening, saying: “I think you would be crazy to not want to. I felt pretty good out there then.

“It’s different when you’re starting but it’s a home game and I would love to play and it’s just a matter of seeing how things go over the next four or five days now.”

Town will be desperate to put Friday’s night’s disappointing defeat at Wrexham behind them as quickly as possible after they had shown signs of progression leading up to that match.

Luton had kept four clean sheets in a row, scoring a fine 2-0 victory at Kidderminster Harriers in the process and dominating a goalless draw against Grimsby Town the previous week.

Lawless continued: “I know I’m already looking forward to playing at home on Tuesday, so that’s the aim.

“I think from what I’ve been watching I think we’ve been gradually getting better and slowly getting better in areas and I think today we stunted in that a little bit. You can tell in the dressing room there’s a massive disappointment in there and it is the old cliche, but it’s how we react to this now and we’ve got to get back to getting better.

“The clean sheets have been great and games change week by week and things and from this moment in time we looked back over the game and we analyse it ourselves and sometimes it’s easy for me to dive in and say things but they might not be the most important things.

“We’ve got the weekend now to look over the game and analyse it properly and then bounce back from it in the right way.”

And he’s in no doubt Town’s long-suffering supporters will continue to get behind the team.

Lawless added: “There was a big crowd here today as always even though it was on TV and we’ve just got to come out and put it right straight away.”

“I’ve been here three or four years now and that’s never been the case anyway (the fans not getting behind them) so I think it’s up to us to come out for the two home games now and look forward to playing in front of the home crowd.”
