Lawless hoping for Nuneaton repeat

Town midfielder Alex Lawless is hopeful of a repeat of the last time he played Nuneaton when the two sides meet in their FA Cup first round replay tonight, writes Mike Simmonds.

Lawless was the stand out performer in the Conference clash last month, bringing a dull encounter into life with a tremendous strike into the top corner and then sealing the 2-0 victory late on.

He said: “I wish that happened against everyone. Hopefully, I can chip in and help the team again and get us into the next round.”

Lawless didn’t play in the first cup match due to injury, where Nuneaton once again put 11 men behind the ball for long periods as Luton laboured to break them down.

Despite being at home this time, he isn’t anticipating a hugely different outlook from their opponents.

Lawless continued: “I’m not holding my breath to be honest with you.

“They have been two home games for us, so we’ll see. Hopefully they won’t do that and we can exploit them.

“Regardless of what they do, we’ll try and break them down anyway.”

The midfielder is just desperate to get out there again in a Town shirt and put Saturday’s poor performance behind them as they went down to their second successive league reverse, losing 2-0 to Dartford.

He added: “We just want games to come. When you’ve lost, you want to get a win under your belt for confidence. We just need to go on a run and that’s what we’ll look to do on Tuesday.”
