Lawless hails Town’sDragons double

TOWN’s play-off success over Wrexham last season was fresh in the players’ minds as they hung on to reach Wembley on Monday, according to midfielder Alex Lawless, writes Mike Simmonds.

Last campaign, Hatters had led 3-0 from the first leg, before winning 2-1 at Kenilworth Road, while this year they took a 2-0 advantage to the second leg at the Racecourse Ground.

It had looked plain sailing when George Pilkington converted a 23rd-minute penalty, but second half goals by Adrian Cieslewicz and Andy Morrell left Town bravely clinging on at the end.

Lawless said: “The last 10 minutes, a few of us asked the ref how long was left and he said 10 plus.

“We were like ‘oh great’, because of the way the game was going.

“The lads worked hard though and I think overall we deserved it.

“Last year when we were 3-0 up and they were coming at us, it was a good experience for this.”
