His goal in the 2-1 victory at Barnet made it three in two appearances and took him to five goals for the season.

Fellow goalscorer Paul Benson said: “That’s perfect for him to be honest because he cut inside on to his favoured right foot and he’s got tremendous ability, and when he cuts inside there’s always a chance that he’s going to hit the target or put it in the corner.

“He did it brilliantly and he seems to be relishing that role and that side of the pitch.”

Skipper Ronnie Henry also believes he is excelling in the role, but misses the classy midfielder playing in front of him.

He added: “Alex is playing left, I like him on the right in front of me, we work together, but he’s scored a great goal today and I’m pleased for him because he did have his injury at the start of the season and kept pushing him back.

“He’s coming good at the right time at the moment is Alex, he’s working hard on the training ground and it’s showing out there and he’s scored a great goal today.”
