Lawless felt York final was always on the cards

HATTERS midfielder Alex Lawless felt it was destiny that Luton should meet his former side York City in the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off final at Wembley on Sunday, writes Mike Simmonds.

It will be the fifth time the sides have met this season after being paired in the FA Trophy semi-finals, where York triumphed courtesy of a late goal, while Luton have yet to taste victory.

Lawless admitted both sets of players always thought they would be battling it out for promotion at the home of English football as he said: “I’m in contact with a few players and we said it was written in the stars for it to be between us two.

“We even said it at the beginning of the season, however the season panned out.

“We sort of owe them this season and I know there’s a few other players who will feel that from the last play-offs when I was actually for York.”
