Town had the game sewn up by 18 minutes after motoring into a 4-0 lead with goals from Andre Gray (2), Paul Benson and Luke Guttridge, before Alex Lawless added a fifth in the second half.

Law told the Reds official website: “I thought we started well for 10 minutes and then we came up against a side who were good everywhere you need to be and we were poor where you don’t need to be.

“They have got loads of ability and their energy levels are good. They were on a different planet to us.”

“They were strong up the middle of the pitch. (Steve) McNulty holds it all together at the back, the two central midfield players had too much power and pace for us and Andre Gray and (Paul) Benson, we couldn’t handle them.

“You have to hold your hands up. The top and bottom of it was that they were a far better side than we are, they are a very, very good side.

“They are the best we have seen this year, they are the best we have come up against by a long, long way.

“Fair play to them, we have no complaints whatsoever, we have been absolutely given a real, real lesson.

“The game nowadays is about power and pace, athleticism and they have exposed us. We were lacking athleticism and energy in key areas and we got dominated.

“To be fair they have probably took their foot off the pedal a little bit at 4-0 but we have come out second half and salvaged a little bit of pride.”
