Late goals are not an issue says Town boss

Determined Town boss Paul Buckle felt his side deserved victory as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Dorchester in the first round of the FA Trophy on Tuesday night, writes Mark Wood.

A whole host of chances were created at either end and the Luton boss felt his side had done enough to progress, despite conceding a late goal for the second game in a row as they were held to a draw.

He said: “I’m not sure we’ve conceded really late in games. I think we’ve been on an excellent run away from home.

“I think we’ve been very disciplined and I think what I have to do is not be too disappointed now and to look at the whole game, and over the whole game I think we deserved to win the game.

“We haven’t won the game, we know that, we’ve drawn the game.

“We know we need to be more professional to see a game out. But there’s not too many times this season where that late on where we’ve let a goal in.

“We had a couple of opportunities to keep the ball in the corner and be a bit sensible, we lost good possession in the left corner where maybe we should just make them kick it out.

“We lost it and we know that was unprofessional of us and we did it again centrally down here. But the lads have held their hands up on that.

“It was disappointing, Aingey (Simon Ainge) is annoyed he has let his man go.

“Having said all of that for the whole 93 minutes it should have been a Luton win. We had some unbelievable chances on goal.

“We worked very hard to get those chances on what was a difficult pitch tonight.

“I’m very pleased with the application of the players, I’m delighted we are still in the cup because a lot of Conference teams have gone out.”

Keeper Mark Tyler was in fine form for the Hatters, but that was to be expected as Buckle more closely examined his side’s profligacy.

He added: “I think they had two really good chances. We’re not going to come away and not have a shot on our goal.

“It’s not a concern at all. Because if we stick the ball in the net two or three times like we should have done it’s a different game of football.

“I’m very focused on it and how you win a game and on the job in hand and I was very pleased with what I saw tonight.

“I think our performance levels were where they need to be to win a game.

“It’s always the finishing touches that you need to put the ball in the back of the net.

“But if you look at them, they’ve got two ex-League forwards up front, it’s not a massive difference.”
