Everything came together for Town on the night, and Luton played their Cards right when a training ground move enabled the youngster to score his first goal for the club where he has progressed through the youth system.

He said. “I’m absolutely buzzing for my first goal and it’s great to be back in the team after a couple of weeks out, so I’m delighted with tonight.

“I’ve moved the guy out of the way quite well and I’ve just headed it back into a dangerous area and I think it’s come off their keeper and gone in.

“So I’m absolutely delighted, we’ve worked on it in training and it worked out, so very happy.”

Boss John Still was also thrilled that their hard work on the training ground had paid off.

He said: “I’m really pleased when young players do well. And I was really pleased because it’s a corner we’ve worked on.

“So that’s always pleasing when training ground stuff works.

“In all of the stuff Luke Guttridge’s delivery was right on the money and it was a good goal for him, but I think you’ve got to give credit to the delivery.”

Striker Mark Cullen also struck twice on the night along with Andre Gray getting his first of the season, and the former Hull City man was thrilled for his team-mate.

“He’s a local lad so I can imagine it’s a good goal to score for him and he’s worked hard on getting back fit after he got injured a few weeks ago so he deserves it and hopefully it can build his confidence a bit,” he said.

Experienced keeper Mark Tyler was also delighted for the youngster, as he joked: “Obviously it said Andy Parry on the tannoy, but we won’t say anything about that!

“Lacey was quality, I’ve said before he’s going to be a great young player for the club so it’s nice to have him back. I thought Pazza (Andy Parry) was outstanding in midfield as well.”

The 20-year-old defender had missed three games after a twisted ankle forced him off in the goalless home draw against Grimsby earlier this month.

And despite two wins in the last two games, Lacey was delighted that Still had chosen to change a winning team and hand him a recall.

He said: “I was out for a week and a half. It’s good that the manager’s had faith in me to come back in and to come straight back into the team. I’m very happy to get a 4-0 win to repay his trust.”

Lacey was also relieved that it hadn’t turned into anything longer term as he continued: “With those sort of injuries they can keep you out for a while so I’m just very happy to be back fit and training and in the team obviously starting again tonight.”

It was Luton’s seventh clean sheet in 11 games, much to Lacey’s delight, who has blossomed since Still gave him the chance to shine.

He added: “The last two seasons I’ve been out on loan, just getting experience and that and really come back in and done very well so far.

“I’m just happy to keep impressing and trying to keep my place in the team.

“I’m just really happy to keep clean sheets, that’s my first aim and luckily we’re getting goals now to complement them. We’ll definitely climb the table.”
