Lacey admits competition is driving Town’s players forward

Competition for places is driving Town’s players on according to young Hatters centre-half Alex Lacey, writes Mark Wood.

He said: “You have a couple of bad games and you could be out of the team.

“It also works another way that everyone’s pressing so hard to get a place it kind of steps up the performance so competition is very high for a place at the minute.”

Lacey was also full of praise for the 302 Hatters fans who made the 500-mile round-trip to cheer Luton on in Gateshead.

A miserable afternoon in the North East saw the Town battle to a goalless draw in torrential rain and high winds, with the defender labelling them the worst conditions he has played in.

Lacey said: “They’ve been fantastic all season and especially for a trip this far up north, it’s a massively long way for them to come and I’m very grateful that they turned up.

“I’ve probably played in a bit of hail or something like that before. But in that sort of rain is just constant, so it’s definitely up there with the worst conditions.”
