Kovacs thrilled to become a full time Hatter

DEFENDER Janos Kovacs could hardly contain his delight after, as expected, he signed for the Hatters permanently this week, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 26-year-old was originally brought in on loan during September to ease a defensive crisis with captain George Pilkington injured and Dean Beckwith suspended.

He has excelled ever since though, making 19 appearances in his second spell at the club, scoring twice and becoming a rock in the Town backline alongside skipper Pilkington.

Kovacs said: “I enjoyed every second that I’ve spent with Luton on loan and that’s why I’m happy to become a Luton player now and not be like an on-loan player.

“I’m very, very happy and as I said so many times, I love this football club and I enjoy every second with the staff, with the fans, with my team-mates.

“Everything is just absolutely the opposite of what I had in the last one and a half years with Hereford.”

Kovacs’ move to Kenilworth Road brings the curtain down on a frustrating period at Edgar Street where he made almost 30 appearances in just over a year.

Out of favour this season, Kovacs didn’t feature once for the League Two side, but felt he matured greatly during his time with the Bulls.

He continued: “I learned a lot of things. I’m 26-years-old now, I’m getting to the age now where we can say experience is one of the biggest qualities.

“I learned so many things about football and I’m not talking about how to kick the ball.

“I’m talking about the mental side, mental strength and I’m pretty sure I’m much stronger now as I was on the first occasion when I was here.”

The Hungarian is now contracted at Luton until June 2013 and after plying his trade in this country since 2005, there is no place he would rather be.

He added: “The fans are absolutely brilliant, staff is absolutely brilliant.

“It’s the biggest club and the most professional club I have ever played for in England.

“I was at Chesterfield, I was at Lincoln, all of them were good, but this is everything, the training ground, the facilities, the stadium the fans.

“The work what we do in training sessions is the most professional.”
