Kovacs is ready to fight for his place

Fighter Janos Kovacs has welcomed the added competition at the back after Luton signed two new centre-halves last week, writes Mark Wood.

Boss Paul Buckle added former Fleetwood man Steve McNulty and the experienced Wayne Thomas, following his return from Greece as he looked to beef up his defensive options.

That meant Kovacs was dropped for the 1-0 defeat at Barrow, but with Lathaniel Rowe-Turner suspended and Thomas’ international clearance not yet through, he returned to partner McNulty in the heart of the defence at the weekend.

On being left out the week before, crowd favourite Kovacs said: “This is football, you just need to get on with things.

“Decisions from the referee, from the gaffer, from anyone, this is football.

“If you are mentally strong you can deal with anything.”
