Kovacs: Luton the only Conference club I would have joined

The 26-year-old made his second debut for the Hatters on Tuesday night in the 1-1 draw at Bath City after signing from Hereford on a one month emergency loan to solve Town’s defensive crisis.

Kovacs made 18 appearances for Luton between January and August 2010, scoring twice, and said: “It was a definite interest because in this season I had three different Conference clubs come in to take me on loan and I can say the only club in Conference level is Luton where I come and I want to play.

“I’m pretty sure this shows everything about my passion for this football club.”

On whether he thought he would ever pull the Luton shirt again, Kovacs continued: “Football is like a never know situation.

“I’ve always loved this football club and I think everyone has to say that Luton is a massive, huge club especially for Conference level.

“I’m very happy to come back and have some games under my belt.”

Despite impressing at Twerton Park, the defender didn’t want to look further than his initial month stay with Town.

He said: “I just want to focus on every day and don’t want to look too much further forward and that’s why first of all it’s just a month.”

With George Pilkington and Shane Blackett hoping to return from injury in the next month, and Dean Beckwith having two games of his suspension left, manager Gary Brabin didn’t want to be drawn on the Hungarian’s future either.

He said: “It’s a good opportunity and we desperately needed to bring in a defender, especially for the short term.

“Janos has come in to do that. I’m not going to make any promises, he’s in for a month and we’ll take it from there.

Kovacs played 29 times for the Bulls last season, but although he is yet to feature for the Edgar Street club this campaign, he didn’t want to go into his situation.

He said: “To be fair, it’s a different story and I don’t want to talk too much about that. It’s Hereford and I’m at Luton now, so it’s a bit like no comment on that.

“I want to focus on this one so it’s behind me for one month, I will focus on that one if I go back there.”

Hatters travel to one of Kovacs’ former clubs York on Saturday, before hosting Cambridge United on Tuesday night with the defender looking forward to running out at Kenilworth Road once more.

He added: “When I checked the fixture list, I was happy that the second one was at York. It’s the main part in this football club too the fans.

“Some of the League clubs can’t show half of these fans at home, so I don’t need to say any more positives about them, they’re just brilliant.”
