Kovacs experiences an unhappy return to Imps

The 6ft 3ins centre-half played over 60 times for the Imps during almost two years at the club and was clearly annoyed by the Hatters’ inability to hold on to their lead.

He said: “It’s a disappointing result, we dropped two points again. It feels like we lost the game.

“In the first half we were in the game and made chances and they score this lucky goal.”

After a fine first half performance the Hatters fell away and Kovacs, 26, believes it was a lack of intensity that cost them.

He continued: “We dropped our level in the second half. We dropped our hard work and at this level you cannot do this.

“You cannot give this chance to the opposition and it was disappointing. I think everyone needs to look into the mirror and come back out and do something different. Because you cannot do one good half, one bad half, then you will lose points and lose games.

“We did not lose the game, but in our situation this is a lost game. It feels like we lost it and we cannot do this.

“At the end we have one point to be positive. Try to build on the first half but we need to look at the negatives too and we need learn from it very, very quickly.

“We’ve said that lots of times now and we need to change this as soon as possible.”

Kovacs looked like he had almost put a Lincoln winner into his own net in the dying moments, but the calm defender always had the situation under control.

He added: “I tried to clear the ball and I was really focused every second and I felt like yes it’s going into the goal, but I recovered and cleared the ball. I was lucky and did everything I can.”
