Keane’s content to lead Luton’s assault

CONTENT captain Keith Keane is committed to the Hatters after the club turned down two bids from League One Stevenage for his services, writes Mark Wood.

The 24-year-old, who came through the ranks at Kenilworth Road, said: “I don’t even think about it. I haven’t heard any more. As far as I know Luton have rejected it and there’s no more. As far as I’m aware there’s no more interest.”

Town also turned down a renewed bid from Forest Green Rovers for winger Robbie Willmott yesterday.

Keane though admitted Luton should be winning games like the 2-2 draw at Hayes & Yeading on Tuesday night, saying: “These are the games we need to win if we are going to win the league and put that right. We are just disappointed for the fans, like I said, we should be winning these game. No disrespect to them, they are a good outfit, work hard and close you down. We’ve gone 2-1 up and with the quality in our team we should have put the game to bed. In the first half we could have been three or four one up. We’ve given two very bad goals away and it’s killed us in the end. I’m pretty confident if we had gone in 2-1 up we would have gone on to win the game.

“We gave them hope and gave them a chance and haven’t killed a team off which we are known for doing.

“I think the people that have made the mistakes have held their hands up and taken responsibility for what happened and hopefully they will learn from that and it won’t happen again. I think we did more than enough and dominated the game and had 90 per cent of the play.

“It’s just one of those nights and hopefully we can put it behind us.”

Keane came close to hitting a winner when his thunderous second half drive flashed over.

He added: “I’m getting closer! It’s them balls, it was going in and started to rise. I don’t mind what people say, if I get a chance I will shoot and hopefully it will come sooner rather than later.”
