Keane: We didn’t deserve to go up

A BRUTALLY honest Keith Keane felt his Luton side didn’t deserve to win promotion this season after defeat to York City in the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off final on Sunday, writes Mike Simmonds.

For the majority of the campaign, Hatters had flattered to deceive, finishing 22 points behind champions Fleetwood Town and only securing their top five place on the final day.

Almost 30,000 fans still turned up at Wembley in the hope Town could regain their Football League status and it was they who an emotional Keane felt for the most.

He said: “I’m very disappointed about not getting promoted. For me personally, I feel like we’ve let the fans down.

“We haven’t been good all season to be honest, we’ve played in spits and spats, we’ve played a couple of good games.

“We managed to get to the final, but all in all, we haven’t been good enough and we’ve let the fans down.”
