Having been signed on a two-year deal from Ryman League side East Thurrock United, the 22-year-old 6ft 3ins stopper knows he has a massive job to displace Mark Tyler between the sticks.

But he is looking forward to that challenge and said: “Mark Tyler is very experienced and might be seen as the number one but I’m there to fight for the number one shirt.

“I’m very confident. Working with Dmitri (Kharine) and Mark they only going to benefit me in the short-term and long-term and it’s a great challenge for myself.

Justham has played well over 150 times during his four years in non-league for the likes of Waltham Forest, Leighton, Redbridge, Brentwood and East Thurrock, who he helped to the Ryman League play-offs last season.

Two years ago Brentwood Town manager Steve Witherspoon had revealed Justham had shed a lot of weight to try and achieve his goal of playing full-time football as he said: “He won’t like me for saying this but he was a little bit porky.”

The keeper agreed it was something he needed to do, adding: “When I was younger I did carry a bit of weight but lost that and I’m still looking to get even fitter.”
