JJ aims to follow in Watkins’ footsteps

YOUNGSTER JJ O’Donnell has pointed to midfielder Adam Watkins as the perfect example in his bid to make a name for himself during this season’s FA Trophy campaign, writes Mike Simmonds.

Last season, Watkins was handed his first real opportunity in the starting line-up and grasped it with both hands, scoring twice in the win over Uxbridge to force his way into senior team reckoning this year.

O’Donnell was on the bench against Swindon Supermarine at the weekend as this season’s competition kicked off but came on for 20 minutes in an impressing outing on the left flank, setting up striker Tommy Wright for the crucial second goal.

He said: “For the young lads, it’s a real stepping stone, if we do well here and do well in training.

“Adam Watkins did well in the Trophy last year and he’s kicked on this year.”
