It’s as you were for Hinckley test tonight

VIRTUALLY the same Hatters squad will travel to the Greene King Stadium for tonight’s FA Trophy second round tie against Hinckley United, writes Mark Wood.

Saturday’s game at the Blue Square Bet North strugglers had to be postponed due to a frozen pitch and, after initially being scheduled for Tuesday, the match was put back 24 hours to coincide with the expected warmer weather.

But the squad is likely to consist of a mixture of first teamers, fringe players and youngsters, as was the case on Saturday.

Assistant manager Alan Neilson said: “There could be one or two (changes) but it will mainly be the same squad for the Saturday just gone.

“Keith Keane’s progress is good and with an extra few days rest he could come into the squad.

“But it’s a game where we look at it and it might not be worth the risk.

“We are looking for him to perform on Saturday.

“The squad was used against Swindon Supermarine so the squad will be used again against Hinckley.”

On what he expects from the Knitters, Neilson said: “Our chief scout and Paul Carden went to see them the Monday before.

“I don’t think they got a lot out of it because Hinckley lost 4-1 (at home to Altrincham).

“But the Saturday before they won 4-0 against Eastwood and they were there watching that game getting a match report as well.

“So we will approach it exactly the same as we would a league game.

“And they are a team who we looked and thought would be hard opposition, they beat Wrexham in the round before so we know it won’t be easy.”

Victory would mean Luton’s long trip to Barrow on Saturday, February 4, would have to be rearranged as they would instead travel to Kidderminster Harriers in the third round that day, after the draw was made on Monday.

Harriers secured their place in the last 16 by thumping Droylsden 5-1 at Aggborough on Saturday.

The prospect of a midweek trip to Barrow is not a concern though, with Neilson saying: “We take each game as it comes and we are looking to win it.

“If we win and get through then if the Barrow game’s changed the Barrow game will be changed.”

Neilson is also hoping victory will help to fully embed Town’s winning mentality adding: “The start of our five-match unbeaten run in the league started with a 2-0 win over Swindon Supermarine.

“So we are getting that mentality in the whole of the squad.

“The reserves stroke youth team have all been doing well, getting that winning mentality and long may it continue.

“You look at the FA Trophy, yes our priority is to win the league, but to get a good cup run and to get to a cup final at Wembley is something for all players to look forward to.”
