The 27-year-old stopper has kept four clean sheets and conceded just three goals in six games after initially signing on loan until January.

He was initially signed to provide competition for first choice keeper Ryan Esson, but has overtaken him in the pecking order after Esson suffered a groin injury in pre-season.

Caley Thistle manager Terry Butcher said: “He’s a very good goalkeeper. He’s got a good presence and commands his box well.

“Ryan Esson has been a little unfortunate, but Dean’s come in and done ever so well.

“There’s good competition between the two of them. They are good friends, who work each other hard on the training pitch.

“We had a similar situation last season with Ryan and Antonio Reguero, so it’s great to have that again.

“When I spoke to John Still about Dean he was very pleased with him. It was just Luton have a good goalkeeper as first choice and a young up-and-coming keeper, so Dean was effectively third choice.

“He came here to get games and so far he’s taken that chance with both hands.”
