Hurting Hatters look to avenge Telford defeat at Fleet

Hurting Hatters will look to exorcise the demons of their 1-0 home defeat to AFC Telford on Saturday at Ebbsfleet on Bank Holiday Monday according to Alex Lawless, writes Mark Wood.

Town did everything but score against the Bucks and also had captain Ronnie Henry sent off after tussling with Daniel Preston during a mass second half scuffle.

And Lawless believes it may be worth appealing his sending off, especially as Janos Kovacs is likely to still be missing through injury.

On any appeal, Lawless said: “I haven’t heard if that’s the case or not. I know certainly the fact that Ronnie says he didn’t do anything and no-one really saw him do anything. I don’t know, he’s a major player for us so it might be worth it yeah.”

And on Kovacs’ injury he continued: “I’m not sure. Jan’s obviously injured today so I’m not sure where he is with regards to having a game so close. It’s difficult when you miss a game with injury to be available again two days later, so I’m not sure where that is.”

Scarred by their first defeat of the season the midfielder turned right-back sent out a warning to the Fleet, saying Luton would be looking to bounce back immediately.

He said: “I would imagine Ebbsfleet won’t have been too pleased to have seen that result today with us, because I’m sure we’ll come back now on Monday.

“Personally sometimes when you have a defeat you just want to get a game as quick as you can, so I don’t think that’s a bad thing. And we are a fit team so we will be more than up for Monday now.”

It will be Town’s second game in three days, but Lawless is sure the Hatters have the squad and fitness levels to cope.

“There’s a lot of fit lads and there’s a good squad of players, so that will hopefully work in our favour,” he continued: “I think after today being so frustrating it’s a bit of fire in the belly, a bit extra for Monday.”

And he believes Town must learn from Saturday’s defeat, adding: “I think we can learn from today because it will be very similar. The key is definitely not go a goal down. You have to battle against a wall.

“From what I’ve seen they (Ebbsfleet) haven’t changed over the years and the way they play and I think we’re fully aware of their style. We are fully aware of what the teams are going to be like we come up against every week. You try and focus more on us than other teams and hopefully we’ll get the rub of the green a bit more than we did today.”
