Hurst felt Mariners were worthy of a point

Grimsby Town boss Paul Hurst felt his side were worthy of a point during yesterday’s goalless draw at Kenilworth Road, writes Mike Simmonds.

The Mariners, who had lost against Nuneaton last weekend, were thrown into disarray prior to the match with joint manager Rob Scott appearing to leave the club.

But Hurst said: “It was a good result for us. After last Saturday and events leading up to the game, it was one of those, where I wasn’t entirely sure what I was going to get.

“I said to the players if they keep giving me commitment and performances like that we’ll be okay.

“It was a good effort as Luton looked like they were just starting to get into their stride a little bit.

“I know Mark Tyler hasn’t had a lot to do, but I’m not sure James McKeown made any saves that we wouldn’t particularly expect him to make. Just the one before half time when Shaun Pearson got back magnificently to clear off the line.

“We had to withstand some pressure and the longer game went we started to have some good spells of possession, pushed them back and frustrated them.

“Initially we didn’t pick up enough second balls and Luton started well, but for the main we defended extremely well.

“We just couldn’t quite get that cutting edge to take all three points, but I thought we were worthy of a point.”
