Howells urges fans to be 12th man in Lions clash

Town stalwart Jake Howells can’t wait to take to the field at another packed to the rafters Kenilworth Road tomorrow, writes Mike Simmonds.

The FA Cup fifth round tie with Millwall sold out in no time at all, and after playing against Wolves earlier in the competition and in front of similar crowds during the earlier part of his 220-game Town career, Howells can’t wait to witness a similar atmosphere on Saturday.

He said: “I’ve been here for quite a long time now. I’ve played when the stadium’s been full and it’s been an amazing feeling walking out of the tunnel with 10,000 Luton fans singing, it’s brilliant.

“We’ve had it in the play-offs a couple of times. When the fans are behind you, then the whole stadium is rocking which is amazing.

“It’s like an extra player when the fans are on your side and they’re cheering, it’s a hard place to come.

“For Millwall it’s probably not their favourite place to come right now. They’re not doing the best in the league, we’re not doing the best, but it’s the FA Cup and you never know.”

After knocking out Nortiwch City in the last round , Howells believes if his team-mates approach the Lions clash in the same manner, they have every chance of reaching the quarter-finals

He continued: “It’s a brilliant occasion for the boys and the fans, it’s a massive chance for the club too.

“We’re going to go out there and do the best we can. You never know, we went to Norwich and no-one thought we could get a result, but we did.

“Every game we went into with the same attitude, worked hard, trained well in the week, so we’re looking forward to the game.

“It’s good to have an FA Cup run, especially when it’s a club from near enough your home town.

“Playing at Norwich is something I wouldn’t have dreamed of when I was younger, now there’s a massive game against Millwall and hopefully I’ll get a chance to play.

“I think people are starting to take notice, that we’re not just a team you can turn up and beat us. We’re a good side and I think we’re unlucky to be in the league we’re in, so hopefully we can go out put in a good performance.”
